Royal Caribbean Group to Help Bring Internet Service to Sitka

According to a new press release sent out on September 11th, Royal Caribbean Group is collaborating with the Sitka Dock Company and local leaders to install five Starlink terminals to provide residents and businesses free satellite-based internet service amidst wide-spread outages. Deploying terminals across the city will help deliver internet coverage while a broken fiber optic cable is repaired, and services are fully restored.

Selected together with local leaders, the first two internet terminals at Sitka Sound Cruise Terminal are now live with the remainder being installed this week at the Sitka Bazaar in the center of downtown Sitka, and at Harrigan Centennial Hall by the City and Borough of Sitka.

“We know the crucial role internet access plays in staying connected as a community and business. At Royal Caribbean Group, we’re dedicated to doing all we can to support locals as they navigate internet outages in Sitka,” said Preston Carnahan, associate vice president, West Coast destination, Royal Caribbean Group. “We deeply value our partnerships and ability to collaborate with local leaders to provide solutions and redirect resources that can help our friends in Sitka.”

“We are truly grateful for the support and internet terminals Royal Caribbean Group shared with our community during this challenging time,” said Chris McGraw of Sitka Dock Company which owns and operates the Sitka Sound Cruise Terminal. “Over the years their collaboration and willingness to step in have made a difference in Sitka and this time is no different. The locations of the terminals will alleviate coverage needs for our residents and businesses until internet services are restored.”

“Access to reliable internet is essential for our community’s daily life and economic activity. We are grateful for the collaboration of Royal Caribbean Group and Sitka Dock Company in providing vital internet access during this time,” said John Leach, Municipal Administrator, City and Borough of Sitka. “This partnership highlights the strength of our community and our ability to come together to find solutions in times of need, not only during emergency outages but also during times of high network congestion.”

Building on its track-record, this relief effort reaffirms Royal Caribbean Group’s commitment to energize communities and support the well-being of communities it visits.
